I Need to Clone Myself

Too much work this week has kept me from playing nearly any Fallout: New Vegas, and I’m not the least bit happy about it. On the bright side, it looks like things are starting to clear up, so I hope to get a decent amount of play time in over the weekend.

From the hour or so I have managed, I can tell you that the game looks and plays just like Fallout 3. This is by no means “Fallout 4”. If you were expecting something different, don’t. It’s basically Fallout 3 in Las Vegas, and like I’ve said before, I’m totally good with that.

There’s a nice little optional tutorial that gives you the basics on combat and crafting (nice addition, you can make ammo, healing pouches, etc. rather than just guns), and the voice overs so far have been great. Sunny Smiles (the demo lady) looks eerily familiar to the girl from your home vault in F3, but they clearly aren’t the same person.

I can’t wait to delve into the plot and find out who wanted me dead (not-really-a-spoiler-it’s-on-the-box-I-think: you’re a courier who was shot and left for dead to start the game, but survived). Then, of course, there will be a plethora of side-quests and exploration to do. I already found a coyote cave, and I was kind of feeling bad for shooting all the little pups until I found what was in there…

‘Til next time.
